Information
The category of Junior Bible Quiz (JBQ) is made up of quizzers ages 6 to 12. Depending on each quizzer’s age and level of maturity, they will memorize questions and answers from different Bible stories and topics, and different verses and passages from the Bible. The questions relate to their own lives and to the different situations that they might confront in their own walk with the Lord. Memorization of the Bible is an important step in the spiritual growth of children, and through it they will receive a greater understanding of God’s plan and purpose for their lives.
Children at this age are like sponges. They have an impressive capacity to absorb everything around them whether it is good or evil. Our longing is that their lives would be kept from the growing river of iniquity, and that from a young age the Holy Spirit would impart to them the convictions of what is right and what is wrong.
In Deuteronomy 6:7, God commands parents to diligently teach their children His Word: when they sit in their homes, when they are taking a walk, at night when going to bed, and in the morning. Junior Bible Quiz provides parents with an incomparable opportunity to obey God’s command and witness the power of His grace at work in the lives of their children.
Many parents have accepted this challenge of diligently teaching their children God’s Word. Many have already testified of the great things that God has begun to do in their homes! If you are not already participating in Junior Bible Quiz, we invite you to be part of what God is doing and to witness the power of God’s Word in your own home.

Officials
During the competitions (League Meet or League Final), officials have an extremely important role, as they are the ones who lead the Meets and judge question completions, answers, and results of each match. They bear great responsibilities, and therefore are selected carefully by the pastor of each congregation, who considers their testimony in the church and impartiality in judging.
The officials also have the opportunity to strive to win a memorization award along with the quizzers. By participating in the memorization, the officials can expect to experience the blessing of knowing God through His Word, of having a greater understanding for judging or training the quizzers for Meets, and the officials will also be able to better encourage those who need it.
In a usual Bible Quiz match, there are three officials with three different functions.
Quizmaster: The quizmaster supervises the match, is in charge of reading the questions, gives the initial judgement for each answer, reports fouls, grants time-outs, and is the main voice in the Meet. Due to his position in each match, he should have a specific way of expressing himself.
Scorekeeper: Keeps a running score for each quizzer and team, as well as a record of fouls, correct and incorrect answers, contests, and time-outs. The scorekeeper is also responsible for listening to the questions and answers and serves as a judge.
Timekeeper: Supervises the time for each question, answer, contest, and timeout. The timekeeper also serves as a judge.
If you are interested in supporting your church as a Bible Quiz official and have your pastor’s approval, we encourage you to study the Rulebook and take a written test that will equip you to become an official.
Serving as an official in Bible Quiz is an opportunity to serve God and His Body. By dedicating time and effort in this area, each official is investing in the Kingdom of Christ and in the lives of the quizzers. As the officials work with the Bible Quiz material, have fellowship with other participants, and express words of encouragement, their lives are blessed in the same way that they bless others.

Coaches
The quizzers compete in teams which are formed as follows:

One to four participants eligible to quiz
In the League meets and league Final, one substitute is permitted.
In the National Final it is permitted to have up to four substitutes.
Each participant should memorize a given number of questions for a specific date, study them personally, and practice at home. In addition to this, each church should have periodic practices with each team, where the team, with the help of their coach, seeks to better their skills to respond to each question. In addition to the normal competition of memorizing certain questions and answers, there are individual prizes available for the quizzers. These awards are called “Memorization Awards,” and consist in answering a certain amount of questions from the JBQ Study Guide. The questions should be answered under the supervision of a person chosen by the pastor of the congregation. See the basic guidelines for these awards in the following links.

Quizzers
A JBQ team consists of the following:
A head coach
An assistant coach (optional)
One to four children who are eligible to quiz
In the League Meet and in the League Final, one substitute is allowed.
In the National Final, up to four substitutes are allowed.
JBQ’s curriculum covers 538 questions and answers from the Bible. The questions are divided into three groups, depending on their assigned point values. The ten-point questions contain simpler information, the twenty-point questions are more difficult, and thirty-point questions are the most difficult.
It is very important that children work at home to learn the questions and answers. We encourage parents to teach their children to set aside a daily study time. Our hope is that this daily study time in God’s Word will become a habit that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
The coach will also meet with the children for practice on a regular basis. Practice times will help children better understand the truths of what they are learning and will also prepare them for the quiz competitions that will be held periodically with other churches in the area.
In addition to the different competitions, the quizzers also have the opportunity to receive awards. These are obtained by answering a specified number of questions correctly. The JBQ awards are as follows: 10 Pointer Memorization Award, 20 Pointer Memorization Award, 30 Pointer Memorization Award, Master Memorization Award, and the JBQ Memorization Awards PLUS. See the basic guidelines for these awards under the “Awards” tab and in the following links.

Awards
The first and main purpose of Bible Quiz is to come to know the Lord. Therefore, our desire is that at the end of every Meet, each quizzer would know with certainty that he is taking home a priceless award which is far greater than any other prize: knowing the Word of Life in a new way—the One who upholds all things with the power of His Word. Any additional award should take second place.
The second purpose of Bible Quiz is to WIN. The desire to win is a fundamental attitude that God wants to find in every Christian believer. First Corinthians 9:24 says, “Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.” Colossians 3:23 also says, “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.”
Finally, the last purpose of Bible Quiz is to give everyone the valuable opportunity to learn both to win and to lose. Does our attitude please the Lord when we win? What about when we lose? In Philippians 4:12, the apostle Paul tells us, “I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed . . . both to abound and to suffer need.” God wants us to know, not only how “to abound” (win), but also how to “suffer need” (lose). Are we “suffering need” (losing) with the correct attitude? First Corinthians 12:26 reminds us that we should rejoice with our brother when he receives honor. When we confront a “loss,” are we truly rejoicing with our brother—he who God has chosen to honor with a victory? If we cannot answer “yes,” then Bible Quiz is the perfect opportunity to learn this lesson that is given by God.
Regardless of whether or not we have received physical trophies during the Bible Quiz year, we can be certain that we have reached our Bible Quiz goal if at the end of the year we can say that we quizzed to “obtain the prize,” and that we quizzed “heartily, as to the Lord,” that we have learned to reflect the attitudes of Christ with our victories and losses, and that we have come to know the Lord Jesus Christ in a greater way. As mentioned previously, each quizzer should have the conviction that he is taking home the most priceless award of all: coming to know the Word of Life in a new way—He who holds all things with the Power of His Word.
With these things in mind, we want to introduce the Bible Quiz Award Program, designed to encourage the greatest possible number of participants to memorize God’s Word.
There are two ways of obtaining awards. The first is through participation in the official Bible Quiz competitions. During the Bible Quiz year, not only are top teams and quizzers awarded and recognized for their hard work, but also, both in the League Final and National Final, each quizzer who does not obtain a place is awarded and recognized for his effort.
Below you will find a list of the awards that are given in the official competitions:
League Meet:
Medals are awarded to quizzers in the winning teams.
Medals are awarded to the best quizzers.
Pins are awarded for Quizzing Forward.
Finals:
Trophies are awarded to the winning teams.
Trophies are awarded to the best quizzers.
At the League Final, Best Attitude Certificates are given.
Participation medals are given to the quizzers whose teams did not place.
At the National Final, a monetary award is given to the best teams and quizzers.
Pins are awarded for Quizzing Forward.
The second way in which awards can be achieved is by completing the requirements for one of the JBQ Memorization Awards.
The JBQ Memorization Awards, listed below, can be acheived by anyone involved in the Bible Quiz program such as: Bible Quiz coordinators, officials, coaches, and quizzers.
Local churches are encouraged to host their own awards ceremony at the end of each Bible Quiz year to award those who have achieved one of the top three JBQ Memorization Awards. Participants who achieve the JBQ Master Memorization Award will be given their trophy at the National Final Awards ceremony. Local churches are encouraged to contribute to the cost of this trophy. Hebron Ministries is willing to help any local church that would not be able to hold its own Awards Ceremony without financial assistance. Please contact your National Bible Quiz coordinator if this is your case.
